History

In 1990, our managing Director, Mark Brown set up a French polishing and wood finishing business, operating from a small country workshop. A desire to offer the best in quality, price and service led to steady growth. In 2003, he formed the current company with Barry Burgess, who also has many years’ experience in French polishing and wood finishing. Brown’s French Polishing Company now operates from a 6,000 square ft premises in Letchworth Garden City, and specialises in all aspects of wood finishing. We employ several experienced polishers. Our new premises have fully equipped workshops, spraybooths,offices and a showroom. We specialise in the following areas:

Factory Finishes-Joinery and Shop fitting components/ Industrial Wood finishing

A large amount of our work is from the joinery and shop fitting trades. To cope with this, our workshops are large and well equipped. Our working system is set up to cope with the demand of large volume orders and to exacting timescales.

Our skilled staff is well versed in all materials and finishes. Whether painting kitchen units and components, or polishing staircases, you can rely on Brown’s to deliver on price, quality and turnaround times.

Modern Hand Finishing/ General Furniture Polishing

We use traditional hand techniques combined with modern polishes, to give a highly durable finish with all the aesthetics of French polishing.

This finish has proved very popular, particularly within the piano and snooker trades, where aesthetics and practicality are equally important.

Commercial on-site polishing

Our skilled site polishers are experienced in all aspects of on-site wood finishing, from snagging joinery on a new build site, to polishing counters, bars and floors.

We operate within 125-mile radius of our base. We will work positively with you to ensure that we meet your deadlines.

Residential on-site polishing

Our site team are skilled in all aspects of interior wood finishing, from restoring staircases and panelling in a Georgian townhouse, to polishing doors and floors in a brand new property. We are committed to providing a respectful and conscientious service, whilst keeping disruption to a minimum.

French Polishing and Antique Furniture Restoration

We will carefully restore your antique furniture using traditional hand techniques, and natural oils, shellacs and waxes. We always use a sympathetic approach, retaining the patina and character of each piece.

In May 2006, we were one of four companies shortlisted for the Creative Marketing Award, at the Hertfordshire Risng Stars Awards.

Category: Against the Odds

In November 2005, Brown’s French Polishing Co won the ‘Against the Odds’ category at the Hertfordshire Business Awards. Five members of staff attended the evening event, and John Collier, Chief Executive of Business Link, and Bradley Walsh of Coronation Street Fame presented our award.

Dynamic Duo Raise funds for Children in Need

In November 2005, director Barry Burgess, and workshop manager Anthony Mager donned Batman and Robin costumes to raise money for Children in Need. A big thank you to everyone who sponsored them.
